Item: For your consideration we are presenting for sale a rare vintage "Futura" tension pole lamp that was designed by Raymond Lowey for Stiffel. There are four (4) adjustable shades, each is constructed of metal, and they are pierced, which allows light to shine through when the sockets are lit up. The central vertical column has a series of five (5) vertical on/off buttons - there is one for each of the four lamp sockets, and then a fifth one at the very bottom which acts as a master switch for all of the sockets to be on/off at the same time. The lamp is marked "Stiffel" along the vertical column just below the on/off buttons.

Overall, a fantastic and rare tension lamp that'll look great in an modern or space age interior setting! As seen in the accompanying photographs, the lamp is in place with an 8' (96" ceiling), and still has around another 6" of spring left before it is fully extended, so it can work with a slightly taller ceiling height based on the spring mechanism. Each of the pierced metal shades measures approx 13.5" tall (measured from the opening to the round atomic ball at the top) x 3" in diameter (rim to rim across the opening). With the shades pointed directly downward, the lamp is approx. Condition: While not 100% perfect, the lamp is in good condition for its age.

It does have some cosmetic flaws that we'll mention here. First off, there is a split in the vertical column along the backside at the opening where the attachment point to the bottom piece is (see photo). It is stable, and does not appear to affect anything.

It is on the back side, so it isn't really going to be visible unless you are looking for it. The central vertical column pieces also show some color loss and tarnishing. The shades show some light superficial scratches and tarnish marks that should come out, but are free from dents, dings, rust, oxidation, repairs, etc. We have not done anything in an attempt to clean and/or polish the lamp; we are presenting it for sale in the exact condition in which it was acquired.

It should clean up nicely, but does display fine as it is. All five of the push button on/off switches are in working order with no problems to report. Each of the four shades rotate properly at their attachment points - they aren't stiff, and they hold their positions as they should.

The electrical wiring appears to be original, and is in good condition - no frays, splits, exposed wires, etc. The lamp is in fully-functioning, working condition. As with all vintage lighting, we always recommend having the wiring checked by a licensed professional prior to long-term use. Please ask them and we will respond back to you in a timely manner.
